Ring Rover is an adaptable framework built around user experience. While platforms can exist purely in the digital realm or solely in the physical world, Ring Rover occupies the fertile overlap between the two, where physical form and performative potential blur. Rooted in the heritage of the Ragdale Ring—both its iconic geometry and its historic role as a space for artistic exploration—Ring Rover abstracts the notion of the “ring” into a loose boundary composed of seven movable vertical structures. These elements can be arranged to trace the original footprint or reconfigured to shape new spatial experiences.
The stage itself is reimagined as a roaming platform, able to move across Ragdale’s grounds to create varied atmospheres and backdrops for performance. This mobility fosters experimentation, supporting a spectrum of design and artistic expressions. Ring Rover’s life extends beyond Ragdale: when relocated to another arts organization, it becomes a catalyst for new interpretations, enabling different communities to explore and redefine their own creative boundaries. In doing so, it transforms the idea of “platform” from a fixed object into a living, evolving site of cultural production.
