CITY HIVE
Chicago Watertanks Re-Use
Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is phenomenon in which worker bees from a honeybee colony suddenly disappear. Today, honeybee populations across North America and Western Europe have dropped dramatically. Strawn.Sierralta’s City Hive project proposes that the historic Chicago water tanks be re-utilized as beehives, forming an interconnected aerial network that would span the city. The world-famous Chicago green roofs will be invisibly connected to city parks, private gardens and backyards all over the region. Newly introduced honeybee populations will allow all these green spaces to share their genetic information, while simultaneously growing a healthier ecosystem and producing honey flavored by the city's neighborhoods. Chicago can help bring the honeybee back to the region.
