Field of Play is a temporary landmark and information center for the Paris 2012 Olympic Bid. The landmark was to be constructed in a period of three months, remain open to public viewing for five months and then be dismantled in a period of three months.Construction cranes, a common site on the urban landscape, serve as the main vertical structure, and act to support the viewing elevators that take visitors up to experience the city and surrounding neighborhoods. The crane’s innate agility and mobile nature is utilized to animate the skyline of Paris. The horizontal arms of the crane are wrapped in a white, recycled cloth and lit internally. Crane operators execute performances with the cranes, animating the skyline of Paris against the horizon. The cranes flex and stretch like athletes scaled to the size of the city.
